Is it safe to plant bamboo in my landscape without worrying about it taking over?

Answer #1 · Chason Arthur's Answer · Many varieties of bamboo, such as the tall growing ones, can be very invasive and hard to contain or eliminate in the landscape. Some states have outlawed bamboo for this very reason. You want to check the laws in your state before purchasing or planting certain varieties of bamboo. That being said, there are dwarf varieties which are not so invasive, may be legal in your state, and are available at your local nursery and garden center. In any event, when planting bamboo varieties that are known to be invasive, plant them in a plastic or galvanized tub (with no drain holes) to contain horizontal growth of the plant.)
