Planting Under Bradfordpear

Filed Under: Groundcover Plants · Keywords: Plant, Shade, Mulch, Tree, Growing under · 1192 Views
I have a tiny front yard with an enormous Bradford planted by my mom 30 years ago. It is in good shape and I don’t want it down because of the shade for the house. I have a small flower border in front of/at the drip line, with mulch around base of the tree.
Would ajuga, lysymachia, or fern growing nearby also grow under the tree? The ajuga is a cultivar and very robust.
Will it catch hold if I plant it in only a few spots, with the mulch remaining?
