Cracked Bird Bath

Hi John,
I have read your answers regarding a cracked ceramic bird bath. I also read somewhere else that after the silicone sealant dries, you can apply a spray-on ceramic sealer as added protection. But where to find that? Any ideas?

Answer #1 · Maple Tree's Answer · Hi Bob-I have never used the ceramic sealer but think it may work well to seal a porous material or ceramics that may be cracking or deteriorating. If the crack was small in your birdbath I don't see why this sealer wouldn't harden and seal over the repair. If the crack was too wide I'm not sure if any movement in the silicone would crack the hard drying sealer. I have seen the ceramic sealers in the Michaels stores available in both clear gloss and matte finishes. I would think most large craft stores would carry a product such as this. I believe Krylon has a ceramic sealer also which may be available at most large hardware stores. I also googled ceramic sealer and found it is available on line from several stores.

Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions you may have.

John)
