Maple Tree's Answer · Hi Anita-No, the flower petals are not edible. The Carolina allspice (Calycanthus floridus) is grown by most for its fragrant flowers and foliage. The flowers are long lasting and make good cut flowers or they can be dried and added to potpourri. Don't confuse the Carolina allspice with the allspice you find in the stores used for flavoring foods. The seeds, flowers, and leaves are all poisonous if ingested. The only edible part of the plant is the bark. You can cut off small twigs and allow them to dry in the sun or in a low oven, then smash up the bark and use like you would cinnamon. I have never done this myself and can't tell you anything regarding the tast. Even though some of these plants are labeled as an herb, I would play it safe and buy your herbs from sources that ensure the quality and safety you want in your cooking.
Please ask if you have any other questions.
