Maple Tree's Answer · M- There are 300 species of clematis with many cultivars being added every year. It would be hard to know exactly which clematis you have as so many are similar in flower color and size. Do you know if this plants flower is produced on stems from this years growth or on stems from the previous years' growth? Do you have a picture of the entire plant? Do you know if it is a vining or non-vining clematis? Does it seem to spread out with with leaf stems that would cling to a support or is it more compact? Matching the shape of the sepals, colors, and redish colored stamens I'm thinking this may be a popular cultivar named 'Gypsy Queen'. Is this a newly purchased plant? I'm also thinking it may have been grown in a green house and may be blooming early as the Gypsy Queen I believe is normally a later bloomer blooming in summer and fall. I uploaded a few pictures of this cultivar for you to see. If newly purchased you may be able to find where the nursery had received the plant from and could find out what plant it actually is. Possibly other members will see your question and picture of your plant and can also help with its identification.
