Answer #2 · Sandy McGinnis's Answer · We use electric fence around ours along with "country leaks". Since we use electric fence for our horses we just branched it off around our garden too. Unfortunately it does not keep the turkeys and rabits out though. Oh...and add a sweaty T-shirt hanging on a T-post in the garden or put a sweaty T-shirt on your scare crow.)

Answer #1 · Chason Arthur's Answer · You will want to use some type of fencing specially designed to keep deer out. Conventional deer fencing is tall and made of metal...very expensive for the home gardener.

The cheapest way out is electrical fencing. Electric fencing generally consist's of a wire or wires strung relatively low along the desired border. Electric deer fencing may not be a viable option where children or pets will be present. A variation on this type of deer fencing is a product known as The Wireless Deer Fence™. In this case, baited posts (with no deer fencing, per se) are placed on deer paths leading into your property or around specimens that don't qualify as deer resistant plants. Attracted to the baited posts, the animals receive a mild shock, discouraging future incursions into your yard.

There is also deer mesh fencing available. It's more expensive than electrical fencing but cheaper than conventional metal deer fencing. Mesh deer fencing is nearly invisible to human eyes.

If you live way out in the country, try shooting a bullet or two over their head. Sometimes, the repetetive loud sound of the gun going off a few times will put deer on another course away from your property. I saw a show on tv where this technique worked for some folks out west to keep bears away and, in Africa to keep elephants away. Animals are all creatures of habit, including humans. It's easier to change an animals habit than a humans:))
