Palm trees like water, however, need very good drainage as well. If the top of the root ball is covered this will cause the Palm tree to hold too much water. Palm trees are very susceptible to root disease. Also, avoid over head watering. If water gets into the crown on too regular a basis this will cause crown rot.

Plant the Palm with the top of the root ball even with the top of the soil in the pot. Do not add any soil to the top of the root ball. Leave it exposed. You can put a little bark or stone on top of the root ball for aesthetic purpose. Use a well drained potting mix when transplanting the Palm.
