Maple Tree's Answer · Hi Joni-Many caterpillars become adult beautiful butterflies or moths. Unfortunately when they have heavily infested our plants and have become too destructive they don't seem to be an insect we want to wait till their adult stage.
Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) can be used to get rid of caterpillars. It is safe to humans. It is a bacteria that infects and kills caterpillars. The great thing is it only kills caterpillars, which means there are no innocent bystanders that get wasted in the process. Since BT must be ingested to work, it is applied to foliage as a spray. BT is available at many nuseries and garden shops. Insecticidal Soaps also work well and are also available at your nurseries. There are also some very good home remedies you can use that are safe and easily made to rid your plants of these pestky little cridders.
