I grow Pineapple Sage in several different locations thoughout my landscape. It doesn't seem to be too picky about soil type however tends to prefer a consistently moist soil with moderate drainage. The plant will wilt in summer when growing in very dry soil with the absence of rainfall or irrigation. I have plants growing in both full sun and in part shade and filtered, all day light.

I do no pruning to Pineapple Sage. Plants grow large and bushy and flowers start coming usually by kid summer and continue through fall here in mid Georgia. After the plant has gone totally dormant I do cut it back to just above the ground. It has remerged in spring consistently for me...even this year when we had temps at 5 degrees F during winter.

I fertilize the plants after they've emerged in spring with an organic plant food. Alternatively, you could use any good flower food.

I've seen no serious insect or disease problems. Plants will wilt during the day in dry soils during summer.
